For those cycling guests who wish to experience some of the culture and food of the region, we offer bespoke packages. Being in Cathar country there are numerous ruins of fortified outposts that can be visited, along with chateaux that have been restored or are in the process of being renovated. Close by we have the famous Chateau de Montsegur, the last Cathar stronghold, a ruin perched on a rocky outcrop. There are medieval villages and towns dotted around the area, the most famous being Mirepoix, where sits a square surrounded by ancient buildings with carved gargoyles. A short distance of approx. an hour is the world heritage site of Carcassonne. The area has a number of cheese producers which can be visited and sampling takes place and of course we have the vineyards within a few miles where a visit can be arranged to include a tour and sampling. The area does also boast of several good restaurants where local food is prepared and cooked to local recipes. We also arrange for a chef to come to our home and cook an evening meal for you.
Arrive in Loubieres – dependent upon time of arrival, make yourself at home, light refreshment, bike setup, and take an easy ride probably into our local medieval town of Foix and return. Evening meal in Foix serving local cuisine. (this is subject to timings of arrival)
Day One – Breakfast in Loubieres. Cycle ride out lasting approx. 3 hours – Grotte Mas D’Azil where you will cycle through the fantastic cave, a coffee stop and back to Loubieres where plat de jour will be served. Apresdejeneur visit to the fromagerie where you will be able to see how local cheese is made and sample some of the wares, then on to the medieval town of Mirepoix, where you will be able wander around the cobbled streets and take in the laid back atmosphere of this ancient town. Sit outside one of the numerous bars/cafes and merely people watch with a little light refreshment to hand before dinner at one of our suggested restaurants l’Abbaye-Château de Camon
Day Two – Breakfast in Loubieres. Cycle ride out into the mountains to include a TDF col. In reality this will take up most of the day, probably 5 to 6 hours, a support van will accompany you on the journey. Lunch break will be taken enroute. The return journey will include a stop off in Foix, again for a little refreshment before the last 5km back to Loubieres. Evening meal at DeymiersPamiers where local produce is prepared and cooked.
Day Three– Breakfast in Loubieres. Short cycle ride out, approx. 3 hours including coffee stop. Lunch at the small town of Varilhes. Back to Loubieres and a trip out to one of the many vineyards, our suggested vineyard is Domaine Gayda. This visit will include an afternoon and evening where you will have a tour of the vineyard andwine tasting with the help of one of their on hand experts. The day will be rounded off with a visit to their restaurant for evening dinner.
